Orange Dreamsicle Cake Recipe

Ingredients

For the cake:

1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 cup buttermilk
For the orange filling:

1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons orange juice
1 tablespoon orange zest

Instructions

Prepare the Cake:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract and orange zest.
Gradually add flour mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
Divide batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Prepare the Orange Filling:

In a chilled mixing bowl, whip heavy cream until it begins to thicken.
Gradually add powdered sugar and continue whipping until stiff peaks form.
Fold in vanilla extract, orange juice, and orange zest until fully combined.
Assemble the Cake:

Place one cake layer on a serving plate or cake stand.
Spread the prepared orange filling evenly over the top of the first layer.
Place the second cake layer on top and press down gently.
Prepare the Orange Glaze:

In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange zest until smooth and pourable.
