Ingredients
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
2 cups shredded cheese (a mix of mozzarella and cheddar works beautifully)
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ cup cold butter (cubed)
½ cup milk
3 large eggs
1 cup cream (heavy or cooking cream)
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
A pinch of nutmeg (optional for extra warmth)
1 cup of diced ham or cooked bacon (optional, for a savory twist)
Directions
Prepare the crust: In a large bowl, mix the flour and baking powder. Rub the cold butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs. Add the milk slowly, stirring until a dough forms. Press this dough into the bottom of a greased pie dish to form your crust.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). While it heats, your kitchen will already start to feel warm and welcoming.
Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg (if using). For a richer experience, stir in the diced ham or bacon at this point.
Assemble the pie: Pour the egg mixture into the prepared crust. Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the top, ensuring every inch of the surface is covered with gooey, cheesy goodness.
Bake the pie for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling, and the filling has set. When the pie is done, the top will have that beautiful golden-brown finish, just like in the photo.
Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing. The wait might seem long, but it’s worth it as the flavors settle in, creating that perfect first bite.
Serve this warm dish with a fresh salad or crusty bread, and enjoy how the soft, creamy filling contrasts with the crisp, cheesy top. Every bite feels like a comforting embrace, making this pie a perfect dish for a special gathering or a simple family meal.
Enjoy.
