Ingredients
1 large onion, thinly sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth
4-5 lbs beef brisket
1 cup barbecue sauce (your choice)
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and black pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons olive oil (for searing)
Instructions
Season the Brisket: Generously rub the brisket with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, ground cumin, and dried thyme.
Sear the Brisket: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on all sides until well-browned, about 4-5 minutes per side. This step enhances the flavor, but it’s optional.
Set Up the Slow Cooker: Place the sliced onion and minced garlic at the bottom of the slow cooker.
Add the Brisket: Position the seared brisket on top of the onion and garlic in the slow cooker.
Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, mix together beef broth, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Pour this sauce mixture over the brisket in the slow cooker.
Cook: Cover and cook on the low setting for 8-10 hours, or until the brisket is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
Slice and Serve: Once cooked, remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with the juices from the slow cooker and your favorite side dishes.
Enjoy.
