Ingredients
3 large oranges, thinly sliced
2 cups granulated sugar (plus extra for coating)
1 cup water
Instructions
Prepare the Oranges:
Wash the oranges thoroughly, then slice them into thin, even rounds. Remove any seeds carefully to keep the slices intact.
Make the Syrup:
In a wide saucepan, combine 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture begins to simmer.
Simmer the Oranges:
Gently place the orange slices into the syrup, ensuring they are fully submerged. Reduce the heat to low and let them simmer for about 30-40 minutes, flipping them occasionally to ensure even cooking. The oranges should become translucent and tender.
Dry the Slices:
Using a slotted spoon, carefully transfer the orange slices onto a wire rack placed over a baking sheet. Let them dry for several hours or overnight, until they are no longer sticky to the touch.
Coat with Sugar:
Once the slices are dry, sprinkle them generously with granulated sugar or dip them in sugar to create a sparkling finish. Shake off any excess.
Store or Serve:
Store the candied orange slices in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
Enjoy.
