Instructions
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 cups whole milk (or any milk of choice for a richer flavor)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra flavor)
A pinch of salt (to balance sweetness)
Instructions
Combine Milk and Sugar
In a medium saucepan, pour the milk and add the granulated sugar. Stir to combine.
Simmer the Mixture
Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the sugar fully dissolves and the mixture begins to gently simmer.
Reduce the Heat and Cook Slowly
Lower the heat to a gentle simmer. Let the mixture cook, stirring occasionally, for about 30–40 minutes, or until it has reduced by about half and thickened to a creamy consistency. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
Add Butter, Vanilla, and Salt
Once thickened, add the butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir well until the butter melts completely and everything is incorporated smoothly.
Cool and Store
Allow the condensed milk to cool slightly. Pour it into clean, airtight jars or containers. It will thicken even more as it cools. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Tips for Perfect Condensed Milk
For a thicker consistency, let it cook a little longer.
You can substitute whole milk with plant-based options like coconut or almond milk for a dairy-free version.
Use this homemade condensed milk for cakes, coffee, or any dessert that calls for sweetened condensed milk.
Enjoy.
