Ingredients
1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
½ cup cooked bacon, finely crumbled
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
1 cup crushed crackers or breadcrumbs
1 egg, beaten
Vegetable oil, for frying (or bake for a healthier option)
Instructions
Prepare the Cheese Filling
In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika (if using). Mix until well blended.
Shape into Balls
Using a spoon or small cookie scoop, scoop out portions of the mixture and roll them into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter). Place the balls on a tray and refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up.
Coat the Cheese Balls
Roll each cheese ball in the beaten egg, then coat in crushed crackers or breadcrumbs. Make sure each ball is fully covered for an extra crunchy texture.
Fry or Bake
To Fry: Heat oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the cheese balls, frying them until golden brown on all sides (about 2-3 minutes). Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on paper towels.
To Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the coated cheese balls on a lined baking sheet, and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden and crispy.
Serve
Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce like ranch, marinara, or spicy mayo.
Enjoy.
