Ultimate Umami Burger with Secret Sauce

Ingredients

Burger Patties:

1 pound ground beef (80% lean)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Secret Sauce:

2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Additional Ingredients:

4 slices cheddar cheese
Lettuce leaves
Sliced tomatoes
Sliced red onions (optional)
4 burger buns, toasted

Instructions

Prepare the Secret Sauce:

In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, sweet pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until well combined. Adjust seasoning to taste. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
Cook the Burger Patties:

Season ground beef with salt and pepper. Form into 4 equal-sized patties, slightly larger than the burger buns.
Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty to melt.
Assemble the Ultimate Umami Burger:

Spread a generous amount of the secret sauce on the bottom half of each toasted burger bun.
Place a lettuce leaf on top of the sauce, followed by a tomato slice.
Place the cooked cheeseburger patty on top of the tomato slice.
If using, add sliced red onions on top of the patty.
Complete with the top half of the toasted bun.
